The comfort and elegance of Maruni seating

Sitting pretty

When it comes to selecting the perfect chair for your hospitality environment, there is a common appreciation among designers, venue owners and clientele alike for a seat that offers equal parts comfort, elegance and enduring quality.

Hailing from Japan, the Maruni range of seating represents beautiful craftsmanship and user-oriented design. With esteemed designer Naoto Fukasawa at the helm of the brand as Design Director, Maruni’s reputation for superior yet affordable seating has been internationally.

The Roundish chair, designed by Fukasawa for Maruni, has already gained acclaim in the fit-out of the award-winning Qantas Hong Kong Lounge by Felice Carlino of SUMU Design, with David Caon. “Named for its rounded back, the Roundish is designed to embrace and support the body,” says SeehoSu’s director, Joyce Seeho. “After disembarking from a long haul flight, it’s wonderful to be able to relax in a Roundish chair as they really are just so comfortable.”

Sydney’s new Chiswick restaurant at the Art Gallery of NSW opted for the Hiroshima Armchair and Hiroshima armless dining chair by Fukasawa for Maruni. The Hiroshima is a contemporary classic, upholding Maruni’s key design principles of quality design and production, crafted partly by machine and hand finished.

“Chiswick was looking for a beautiful, well designed dining chair to showcase in their restaurant,” says Joyce. “The feedback so far has been tremendously positive, always accompanied with the question, ‘Where is that chair from?’”

The chairs are robustly made, comfortable and yet look so elegant and well designed that it is no surprise they leave a lasting impression on patrons.

Appreciating these qualities, the Pier One Hotel opted for a extremely tasteful combination of Maruni seating in a luxurious selection of finishes. In the main restaurant you’ll find the Roundish in oak with black stain, while the private dining rooms feature the Hiroshima in walnut with black leather. Completing the selection is the Hiroshima Traditional sofa finished in a mohair fabric – the height of elegance and comfort in seating.

Once installed, Maruni’s chairs just keep giving. “Maruni’s chairs will be the classics of the future – they are a good investment,” says Joyce. “And they are a highly sustainable choice as all Maruni’s timber furniture is FSC accredited and GECA licensed.”
